Includes Golf, Range balls, dinner immediately following players round, and prize presentation following completion of play Registration closes Monday, August 23rd at midnight. Any no-shows or cancellations after 12:00 pm on Tuesday, August 24th will not be refunded the fee.

Mark Shushack – Golf Professional

Mark Shushack was the ultimate Golf Professional.  He was a winning Jr. Golfer earning the Manitoba Men’s Junior championship in 1969 and qualified for his CPGA Card in the mid-1970s as well as his PGA status before being diagnosed with a Brain Tumor forcing him to retire from competitive golf.

He came to Fort McMurray in 1985 assuming the role of Club Professional at the Miskanaw Golf Club in Fort McMurray.  Mark had a passion for teaching and insuring you got the most out of your golfing experience.  He spent most of his time at the Course mentoring young golfers and generally offering tips to members and others just through encouragement and recommendations.

Through Mark’s mentorship and influence, the Fort McMurray Golf community can be proud to have a number of former youth residents who today earn their living as Golf Professionals at 6 – 8 golf courses in Alberta, BC, and as far as Ontario.

Any golfer who had the pleasure of playing at Miskanaw from 1985 – through 1995 will appreciate the easy-going, always ready-to-help personality that loved the game and would do anything to help golfers regardless of their handicap, enjoy their time on the Course.

Most importantly, the attitude and relationship Mark had with young golfers made them just that much better and the Rotary Club of Fort McMurray is proud to remember and honor his memory with the first annual “Mark Sushack Memorial Junior Open”.
